چکیده

We have investigated the presence of dense gas toward the radio source Cen A by looking at the absorption of the HCO and HCN (3-2) lines in front of the bright continuum source with the Submillimeter Array. We detect narrow HCO (3-2) absorption, and tentatively HCN (3-2), close to the systemic velocity. For both molecules, the J = 3 − 2 absorption is much weaker than for the J = 1− 0 line. From simple excitation analysis, we conclude that the gas density is on the order of a few 10 cm for a column density N(HCO)/∆V of 3×10 cm km s and a kinetic temperature of 10 K. In particular, we find no evidence for molecular gas density higher than a few 10 cm on the line of sight to the continuum source. We discuss the implications of our finding on the nature of the molecular gas responsible for the absorption toward Cen A. Mm - wave HCO + , HCN and CO absorption toward NGC 1052

We used the Plateau de Bure Interferometer to observe λ3mm J=1-0 absorption lines of HCO + , HCN and CO toward the core of the nearby elliptical, megamaser-host galaxy NGC1052. The lines are relatively weak, with peak optical depths 0.03 for HCO + and HCN and 0.1 for CO. Nonetheless the inferred column density of molecular gas 2N(H2) ≃ 5×10 21 cm −2 is consistent with the degree of reddening in...

HCN and HCO+ Observations of the Galactic Circumnuclear Disk

We present high spatial resolution (5.1 × 2.7) Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) millimeter array observations of HCN (J=1-0) and HCO (J=10) emission in the inner 3 pc of the Galaxy (0.04 pc ∼ 1). The HCN and HCO emission of the Circumnuclear Disk (CND) is distributed in a well-defined ring with a peak at a radius of 1.6 pc. The observed radial velocities are generally consistent with rotat...

Deuterium in the Sagittarius B2 and Sagittarius A galactic center regions

We report IRAM 30-m observations of DCN and DCO+ towards the galactic center molecular clouds Sgr B2 and Sgr A. We compare our results with simultaneous measurements of H13CN and HCO+ in order to derive estimates of the [DCN]/[HCN] and [DCO+]/[HCO] abundance ratios. We mapped Sgr B2 in DCN(2-1) and DCN(3-2) and we compared HCN with DCN for one position of our maps. The uncertainties in such mea...

Molecular absorption and its time variations in Cen A

New high quality absorption spectra of J=1←0 HCO + , HCN, HNC and the J=2←1 line of CS towards the center of the radio core of Cen A (NGC 5128) are presented. In addition the absorption profile of the J=1←0 line of H 13 CO + has been detected for the first time, revealing that most absorption features have low opacities. The new HCO + spectrum allows a comparison with results obtained more than...

Dense gas in the dust lane of Centaurus A ⋆

The interstellar medium of Centaurus A (NGC 5128) has been studied extensively in recent years, using mostly molecular lines tracing low to medium density gas (500 to several 10 cm). The amount and distribution of the dense molecular gas was largely unknown. Here we present new millimeter data of the HCN(1–0), CS(2–1), and CS(3–2) rotational transitions towards the nearby radio galaxy Centaurus...
